Diabetes concerns every family

On the occasion of the celebration of the World Diabetes Day last Wednesday, 14th of november, the British Hospital carried out a series of awareness, education and prevention activities aimed to its members and patients, both children and adults, under the slogan "Diabetes concerns every family."
Thus, the British Hospital added its effort to the global campaign that for this year and the next proposed as objectives to increase of awareness of the impact that diabetes has on the family and the support of those affected and promote the family role through the care, prevention and education of diabetes.

More than 425 million people worldwide live with diabetes. Most of them with diabetes type 2, which can be prevented through regular physical activity, a healthy and balanced diet and the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits.
Families have a key role to play in addressing modifiable risk factors, therefore the British Hospital carried out blood pressure and capillary blood glucose controls, and also addressed a survey on eating habits focused on breakfast and those who took part of it were provided guidance on healthy eating habits and gave them related information.
Also ludic-recreative interventions were carried out with children, who were gifted sugar free cookies, and employees of the hospital took part on a workshop about “handling of insulin pumps”, led by doctors and nursery professionals.
